Laclau, Mouffe, and the Trouble of Antagonisms

The Laclau and Mouffe reading was the one that gave me the most trouble. In addition to the fact that I had extreme difficulty with the highly historicized and theoretical first chapter, the authors seem to have a pension for bemoaning the existence of antagonisms to class as the universal "generalized revolution" as characterized by Marx. Between chapters 3 and 4, the authors seem almost to flip back and forth on whether or not other social movements can be resolved before the issue of class egalitarianism can be. Maybe this is a product of the argument they are making about articulation, but to be honest, I mostly ended up lost.
